Wonderful tribute to Claude Shannon by David Tse, in Quanta Magazine.
He (Shannon) never won a Nobel Prize, and he wasn’t a celebrity like Albert Einstein or Richard Feynman, either before or after his death in 2001. But more than 70 years ago, in a single groundbreaking paper, he laid the foundation for the entire communication infrastructure underlying the modern information age.
So true…
I remember my College days when I discovered the famous Shannon theorem written by our Information Theory Professor on the chalkboard. I remember the discussions we had about merging Analog and Digital worlds (it was in the 80s !).
Shannon passed out in 2001. He would have loved our Quantum Computing days.
