Germany: Bavaria State launches The Munich Quantum Valley

German Bavaria State has just announced the launch of the Munich Quantum Valley.

This initiative is a merger of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, the Fraunhofer Society, the Max Planck Society, the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich to promote Quantum.

The Munich Quantum Valley initiative would like to establish an efficient ecosystem of business and science in the field of Quamtum. It plans to recruit top researchers and set up a center for quantum computing and quantum technologies that will bring industry and science together. The main aim here is to promote basic research and the development of basic technologies in the field of quantum technologies and to develop, build and operate quantum computers. In addition, the five members of the consortium want to set up a quantum technology park that will provide the technical infrastructure for the development and manufacture of the most modern components.

Last but not least, Munich Quantum Valley has set itself the goal of promoting the scientific qualification and further training of a new generation of researchers, engineers and computer scientists with a focus on quantum technologies.

The German federal government has announced that it will award the contract to build at least two quantum computers in Germany. The Bavarian State Government has taken up has laid the foundation for a promising application for federal funding by the Munich Quantum Valley initiative.

Bavaria is investing around 70 million euros in quantum technologies. In addition, up to 60 million euros have been allocated for funding quantum technologies in the Bavarian state budget for 2021 and 2022.
